TIF districts“It’s about knowing what the threshold should be, because if everyone does have any share of a TIF, I think it makes sense for all of those parties to then be consulted independent of what percentage.”Andre Vasquez, Jr.Member · Committee on Finance · Jul 13, 2026 · 2:17:43Play at 2:17:43
TIF districts“I really do appreciate that this has been moving forward. It’s something we’ve actually been been talking about for a number of years, and part of the reason why the Lincoln Avenue TIF had been extended for 13 years is knowing that there are investments in that stretch that need that kind of support.”Andre Vasquez, Jr.Member · Committee on Finance · Dec 4, 2025 · 2:32:15Play at 2:32:15
Inspector general“Either through the chair or directly, if you have ideas on what enforcement could look like, because if this is just about somebody’s willingness to comply, I don’t think that’s going to change much. And I’ve got concerns that depending on who the next Inspector General is, it may be even harder to get any level of compliance.”Andre Vasquez, Jr.Member · Committee on Ethics and Government Oversight · Apr 16, 2026 · 43:28Play at 43:28
ICE and immigration enforcement“It had not occurred before where ICE, uh, CPD at that point showed up. Uh, there were concerns about a level of coordination, which is what this is about.”Andre Vasquez, Jr.Alderperson · City Council · Mar 18, 2026 · 4:28:32Play at 4:28:32
“2023 is when the decision was made, hey, we want to endeavor in acquiring this and then engage in a federal process?”Andre Vasquez, Jr.Vice chair · Committee on Transportation and Public Way · Oct 7, 2026 · 2:55:11Play at 2:55:11
Pensions and the CPS loan“I think we need a full pension payment. I am gravely concerned that we’re doing what councils in the past have done, and that’s try to solve a problem for one year that leads to much larger problems in future years.”Andre Vasquez, Jr.Member · Committee on Finance · Nov 17, 2025 · 2:36:59Play at 2:36:59

How we identify who is speaking · blind check, pooled across five cities: of 410 council lines drawn, 352 right, 0 wrong, 1 unclear, 57 couldn’t be judged

We identified Vasquez’s voice at 52 meetings across eight bodies. A meeting missing here means we couldn’t attribute the voice, not that Vasquez was absent. Claude and Gemini each read every transcript with that day’s roster. A voice gets Andre Vasquez, Jr.’s name only when both agree and a code check finds the name said on, or just before, their turn. Voices our transcripts merge with someone else’s are never attributed, so every count here undercounts what Vasquez said. For councils and their committees, of 410 lines drawn, 352 were right, 0 wrong and 1 unclear, and the checkers couldn’t judge 57. We have since removed the voices behind 110 of those lines (0 wrong, 1 unclear, the rest we had already held for other reasons). Of the 300 lines we still publish, the checkers could judge 268: all 268 right (90% lower bound 0.99). They couldn’t judge the other 32. The check is one sample pooled across the five cities, not of Vasquez or of Chicago alone.
